remissionCancellation of part of a prison sentence. A prisoner can earn remission of one-third of his sentence by good behaviour in prison and will be released upon remission without any conditions. If he is serving an *extended sentence, however, or is serving more than 18 months’ imprisonment and was under the age of 21 when sentenced, he can only be released on licence (see *parole). There is no remission of sentence for *life imprisonment. |
