no-fault liability

The principle that injured persons should receive compensation for their injuries without having to prove fault against any individual. The term is American in origin, and in the USA and Canada it usually refers to compensation schemes for injuries in highway accidents. New Zealand has a comprehensive no-fault compensation scheme for personal injuries caused by accident, which has completely replaced actions in tort for personal injuries. In the UK, industrial injuries compensation is a form of no-fault liability.
