homosexual conduct

Sexual behaviour between persons of the same sex. The acts of *buggery and *gross indecency are not crimes if the act is committed in private and both parties are over the age of 21 and consent to the act. This does not apply, however, to acts of buggery or gross indecency between members of the UK merchant navy on board a UK merchant ship, which remain criminal under all circumstances. There are also special statutory offences of 'disgraceful conduct of an unnatural (or indecent) kind', which apply to members of the armed forces and presumably cover some kinds of homosexual conduct. Lesbianism is not a criminal act.
